PARENTS ABANDON FOUR CHILDREN, TWO PERISH IN FIRE OUTBREAK

Sad news as two children perish in fire accident as their parents abandon them in a Katanga slum rented room under the care of their 12 year old sister one survived.

Ssentongo Shakula 2 months old and Tamale Badru 2 years perished from the room in Kimwanyi Zone, Katanga Parish in Kawempe Municipality,Kampala on 26th Sunday, 2023 while Mugerwa Kigongo 4, survived having been out of the room.

According to the Deputy Police spokesperson ACP Clare Nabakka, Ssentongo died instantly while his brother Tamale passed on moments after being reached to Mulago Referral Hospital for treatment and Ssentongo died of suffocation.

Nabakka while addressing Journalists in a weekly press conference at Naguru Police Headquarters on Monday said that, the four children where left in the rented room by their father a one Kibuuka Mohamed in custody of Nakigudde Shadia 12 their elder sister.

It’s alleged that the elder (Nakigidde) sister left her siblings in the room with a burning candle and went to look for the money to take the baby (Ssentongo) to the clinic after realizing that he was not feeling well.

ACP Nabakka said that when Nakigudde came back she found when the area residents had gathered and shouting and by the time police fire brigade swung into action the two months old baby had already died and while Ssentongo her elder brother was still breaking and succumbed to fire injuries after reaching Mulago Hospital.

She also said that Nakigudde the elder sister informed police that their father had left one week ago and had gone to Kyankwanzi District to catch grasshoppers and had left with them only Ushs 6,000 and their mother had also disappeared for a while.

The police spokesperson also informed reporters that investigations are still on going to find where there parents had gone and when arrested, they will be charged of child neglect.
