Police in Bukedi South and Tororo has arrested and detained Okongo Gerald 25, resident of Asinga “B” village, Malaba Town Council, for the kidnap, aggravated defilement and murder of a one-and-a-half-year-old, female juvenile identified as Promise Atte.
It’s alleged that, the victim was last seen playing with a 2-year-old child on the 30.06.2023 at around midnight, from Mama Musa’s bar, at Asinga “B” Zone, where her mother, Naziwa Grace, was drinking from. The following day on 01.07.2023, at around 7:30am, the body of the 18-month-old victim was found lying dead in a cassava garden in Amagoro central. The K9 dog was introduced to the scene and led to the arrest of the suspect.
The toddler was kidnapped from Asinga “B” village, defiled and murdered in a cassava garden. She sustained vicious physical injuries across the body and her private parts. A pamper with feces, was also recovered at the scene.
The incident has left the community in Tororo and public, shocked and devastated, by the loss of lovely little girl, who lived a very short life, that was brought to a brutal end by a 25-year-old man, who should have been her protector instead. What is particularly horrifying is that the victim was still a toddler, dressed in pampers for very young children.
‘’As Police, we strongly condemn the vicious physical and sexual assault of the victim. We are going to ensure our Sexual and Gender Based Violence Department, closely follows the matter, to court up to its logical conclusion.’’ SCP Enanga said.
He also said that the suspect will be charged to court to grounds of kidnap, defilement and murder after investigations are done.
Meanwhile ,Police in Mukono is actively has put up a serious manhunt for a one Wabembasha Enock, a 25-year-old resident of Nabutu Zone, Seeta ward, Goma Division for the alleged murder by strangling of his girlfriend, Namboozo Fatuma, 28, a resident of Bulijo village, Kyampisi parish, Nagalama Sub- County in Mukono District on the night of 1.07.2023.
The victim who visited the boyfriend that evening, led to a quarrel. Her body was found in the rented room, early morning.
The suspect called the parents of the deceased, using her phone and told them to pick the dead body of their daughter for burial and said that he didn’t regret having killed her.
