SIXTY-FIVE PEOPLE PERISH IN ROAD CRASHES IN ONE WEEK

A total of 65 people perished in road accidents occurred in various parts of the country according to last week traffic report.

According to the spokesperson of the Traffic Directorate, SP Michael Kananura, a total of 392 accidents occurred last week which claimed 65 lives and 320 people escaped with serious injuries.

Out of the 65 death, 22 were bodaboda riders, 22 pedestrians while 3 were passengers on motorcycles and rest are passengers in motor vehicles.

As usual these accidents were mostly caused by overtaking poorly in prohibited areas, high speeding wrong entry in main roads and junctions and driving vehicles in dangerous mechanical conditions.

Meanwhile Kananura said that vigorous operations will commence this week in an effort to crack down errant motorcycle riders, ridding without helmets, reflector jackets and permits.
