As senior six candidates begin writing their final examinations, Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) has issued a report on the concluded UCE and PLE Examinations.
According to Jennifer Kalule Musamba the Principal Public Relations Officer for UNEB, few glitches with regard to malpractice have been reported to police and are being investigated.
Among the incidents reported and recorded in different police stations include the one that occurred in Iganga were police recovered Nine P.7 candidates from Teso View Gust House and these were pupils of New Hope Children Centre, Bugweri District.
The said candidates were registered to sit for PLE at Kasozi Primary School, in Jinja. It’s however alleged that their school’s Director, a one Ronnie Kwagala 29, took them for a shelter in Teso View Gust House as hired other pupils were already in Examination room about to start writing examinations on their behalf.
Kwagala a teacher by professional, is now in police custody together with owner of the Lodge and two lodge attendant being and will be produced in court when investigations are done.
Other seven suspects have been apprehended by police in Mpigi District for allegedly involving in examination malpractices. The report indicates that the suspects were nabbed in examination room at St. Mugagga Primary School providing external assistance to candidates during the mathematics paper.
In Kampala, the a teacher of Joy Primary School in Lubowa, Ivan Serugonza was arrested and detained at Katwe Police and his alleged accomplice also a teacher at the same school is on the run.
It’s also alleged that Serugonza and his accomplice were found in the washrooms of pupils disguising as cleaners but were instead providing answers to the candidates who were moving out of the examination room purporting to be easing themselves.
Kampala Metropolitan spokesperson Onyango said that Serugonza upon interrogation confessed to the UNEB scout that he is a math teacher at the same school.
The head teacher of St. Noah Primary School, Eric Baryazayo was also arrest by police in Lubowa for presenting p.6 pupils to be checked by invigilators while the actual candidates were being taken through the mathematics paper in a secluded room.
While police in Kazo, Rwizi Region also arrested three suspects for unauthorized possession of what was purportedly to be SST and Mathematics papers.
Meanwhile today Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education candidates started writing their examination and the arts candidates commenced with History paper 3 and 4 while those offering sciences begun with Principal mathematics paper 1.
A total of 142,009 candidates registered for UACE examination this year compared to 110, 569 of last year indicating an increment of 22.1% and are writing examinations in 2,634 centres.
