The ministry of Education and Sports has approved shs109 billion and shs710 million to support public schools with universal primary and secondary education
Spokesperson for ministry of Education and Sports Dr Dennis Mugimba said UPE schools will receive shs 61.490 billion while UCE and UACE schools will receive shs 48 billion and shs240 million. A total of 13,693 schools will benefit from the funds excluding KCCA schools. The funds are aimed at helping poor children not to be disrupted in their studies due to lack of fees.
“And police spokesperson Fred Enanga said: This is a period where children are returning to school specifically the for third term. To help ensure a safe transition during this time, we want to inform the public and encourage school administrators to review their security emergency preparations, supervision, and other safety fundamentals.
Fred Enanga: We recommend that children be examined for any signs of child abuse during their holiday. During school holidays, there are always perpetrators of child abuse.
Fred Enanga on safety tips: For children who are transported to school on motorcycles, we recommend helmets. Teach your children not to talk to strangers or take lifts from people not approved by their parents. Teach children to memorize emergency contacts.
Fred Enanga on child gangs: Many children join gangs when they lack self-esteem, and identity, or are seeking security.
It is important to note changes in the style of clothing that children are putting on for any gang-like elements of clothing such as damaged trousers, jackets, and use of nicknames among others.
Enanga said police discovered that some schools do not invest in security which leads to criminals committing crimes at schools such as arson, theft.
Police also want parents to teach their children the various techniques they can use to fight back when they are attacked by the wrong people including beating, biting, screaming and other techniques to avoid the wrong people.
Enanga said parents should accompany their children to schools and train them on the roads to pass so that children can mix safely.
Police have also discovered that some parents are buying expensive items for their children which can put the child at risk for thieves.
The police urged parents to provide their children with everything they need to study.
