UGANDA TO HOST VX 2024 WORLD CUP

As VX sport that was derived from a local sport called ‘Okwepena’ normally played by girls in Uganda continue to grow, the country was given an opportunity to host the V2 2024 world cup tournament in August and preparations are in high gear.

This was revealed by the VX Uganda Sport Federation president Dickson Nuwagaba who was reached by this website when attending the training of some national team players at Sheraton Hotel in Kampala.

The National Council of Sports (NCS ) which is our mother body cleared us and officials from the Global VX body have already inspected the venue which include;  Sheraton Hotel, Makerere University, Kabira Country Club and NCS MTN Arena.

Nuwagaba also said that the sport has been spread in schools, Universities and Villages and as of now 20 clubs have registered to compete in the national league.

Uganda has  so far participated in 3 World Cup Finals having missed Italy, UK and India Editions due to lack of funds and is ranked as number one in Africa and this gave it an advantage to host the Headquarters of VX Africa.

VX is literally and indoor game played in version of V2, V4 and V10 where; V2 – is singles each team field one player just like in table tennis, V4- 2 player on each side and V10 is where each team field five players and the game last for only 2 quarters of 4 minutes each.

To score points a player has to scoop and hit the opponent he/she is supposed to target the body to earn points but the head part is excluded and the player must be honest and he/ she can indicate this by raising up the hand and when he doesn’t and the ball has touched the body, he is penalized.

VX started in Uganda in 2012 by the vision bearer of Robert Bakaze, the ‘father of VX in Africa.’  Robert contacted VX and the Federation sent Craig and Paul over to help Robert launch VX in Uganda and was registered with NCS in 2015.
