MAKERERE STUDENTS FIGHT WITH POLICE WHILE DESISTING ARREST

The 7 students were arrested in the middle of a press conference on the upcoming elections at the University of Makerere.

Those who where arrested are mostly NUP members and the head of operation from Wandegeya police refused to give a comment why he ordered for their arrest.

Among the arrested is former guild presidential candidate Nattabi Margarent who was running on the National Unity Platform card but was suspended from the election.

Police also arrested Nattabi as a pig and dragged her to the vehicle and took her to Wandegeya police station.

National unity platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has condemned the army and police for treating the university students as terrorists.

He said Nattabi was the flag bearer of the National Unity Platform when he was speaking to the media on the issues at the university

and there was a heated clash between the students and the police as the students refused to board the ‘police vehicle but the police forced them and took them away.

Police spokesman Patrick Onyango said Wandegeya police arrested seven students at the Emerald Hotel for holding an illegal rally and they are being held at Wandegeya police station where they will be taken to court.
