Uganda People’s Congress Party (UPC) has criticized government for organizing Heroes Day celebrations arguing that it’s not since Ugandans are entangled in many challenges such abject poverty and rampant un employment especially among the Youth.

Arach Oyat Sharon the party Spokesperson said that this year’s theme: hail our heroes; a secure Uganda is now a reality contradicts with the current situation in the country.

According to Arach, a secure Uganda can’t be a reality since the majority of people are limping in poverty due to unrealistic social-economic programs like Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation among others that have failed to pull the citizens out of the poverty bracket; this is coupled with industrial unrest.

She also said that social services such as education and health are on a high decline, there are also unfair taxation policies which are over burdening the business community and contributing to the collapse of some businesses amid this weak economy doesn’t warrant organizing such celebrations.

The soft spoken party mouth piece said this regime can’t be compared to the passed governments of Idi Amin and Dr. Milton Obote because the two leaders contributed immensely to the development of Uganda and NRM Party has all along been riding on what they did in terms of social-economic for the people.

“ Comparing the current government to the former UPC government would be an insult because all the social- economic infrastructure that people are enjoying were done by the passed government and the current one just renovates despite staying in power and collecting taxes for all most 4o years.’’ Arach said.

She also said that for instance, the so called Luweero Triangle is potentially,  a very rich  agricultural belt but farmers are faced with a lot of challenges pests and diseases, prolonged drought season and lack of marketing techniques for their products but government hasn’t helped them so much to solve such.

She also called on all Ugandans who love change of government to join the ferry on pushing for the urgently needed electoral reforms to clear the bumpy political journey as recommended by both the Supreme Court and other relevant stakeholders.

`As political agitators on the opposition, we need to come together regardless of our different ideologies and work for a common cause so as to promote the interest of our people.’’ Arach suggested.

She also retaliated that his Party President will contest for the highest office in the county to remove NRM from power so as to make ` hail our heroes; a secure Uganda a reality.
