Star Times Uganda Premier defending champions Vipers SC stutter their chances of climbing at the summit of the table after sharing spoils 0-0 with NEC FC at Lugogo.
Vipers are now two points below table leaders Bull FC having now played the same number of games. The later have 52 points and the former 50 but have with more goal difference which would have helped them to climb the summit if they had worn at Lugogo
Bull FC earlier beat Gaddafi 1-0 will Villa also secure a 0-2 win against relegated UPDF a way and Stanbic Uganda Cup finalist Kitara FC hammered Busoga United 3-2 to remain on course of challenging the league title.
Kitara and Villa both have 51 points in second and third positions respectively one more than now fourth placed Vipers.
With three games remaining, we are likely to see a repeat of last season’s situation where the title race was decided on the last day and the competition was between SC Villa, KCCA FC and Vipers SC. The federation may also have to hire a chopper to air lift the trophy such that it can be delivered on time to the winning club.
Villa the most successful club in Uganda’s football entered the final match requiring just a victory against URA to secure the championship, but only to face a heartbreaking 1-0 defeat at home against URA FC thus, diminishing their hopes of claiming the title for the first time after 20 years waiting.
KCCA FC and Vipers finished level on 53 points having won their last matches each, but the later with superior goal difference that gave them an upper hand to clinch the title while Villa that was at the summit of the table till last day was relegated to the third position leaving its supporters in agony.
