BICKERING AND FIGHTING JEOPARDIZES THE WORK OF ENSURING A CLEAN CITY- MINISTER KABANDA

The Ministry for Kampala Hon. Minsa Kabandahas warned the leaders of organizations engaged in cleaning work in the city to stop bickering and fighting each other because this will jeopardize their work which in the end affect government policy of ensuring a smart city.

While launching keep Kampala clean program at Kibuli Market in Makindye , said that her office is always flooded with people reporting to her fighting case among the SACCO leaders of the different groups of cleaners.

She called on the cleaners to accept their leaders even if they do not belong to the ruling party, NRM because this will help them do their work with being antagonized and in harmony and avoid the un necessary demonstrations in the city.

“ We had a meeting with the political wing led by the Lord Mayor himself and the Executive director and resolved that all people doing the cleaning work should be paid allowances  and be given tools like gloves and gumboots  to ease their work and also protect them from contracting diseases.’’

She also assured them of ensuring that they are safe while doing their work and that she will talk to the DPC to provide police constable and patrol vehicle during the time of cleaning and argued them to embrace government poverty alleviation programs such as Emyoga and PDM.

The minister also revealed that President Museveni has given KCCA leaders lie way to find means of turning garbage into energy, fertilizers, gas and oil at Ddundu collection center.

“ As KCCA leaders, we met with the president on the issue of renewable energy and he gave us a go ahead to see how we can turn garbage into energy and fertilizers and we are now in advanced stage to acquire more sophiscated garbage trucks and other necessary kits to kick start the work.’’ Hon. Kabanda said.

Hon. Kabanda further said that they will meet the Attorney General to get the legal requirement which will allow them to enter into the contract with the investors already identified to invest in the garbage value addition.

The chairman of Seven Hills SAACO Salim Menton asked the minister to cause a meeting for all leaders of the different groups from which they will air out their views and grievances and find out a workable solution to the dissatisfactions.
