Engineer Patrick Amuriat Oboi and Nandala Mafabi bounced back as FDC party President and Secretary General respectively, in an election that took place amidst marred verbal artillery, insults to some ‘big’ party leaders and the internal bickering which led to the creation of Besigye led Katonga faction.
Amuriat trounced Moses Byamugisha by slightly over 600 votes the former having polled 800 votes while the later managed only 187 votes, while Nathan Nandala Mafabi is the new Secretary General of the party after he went through unopposed and Ekanya Geoffrey will also take his second term as treasurer General after winning Akello Lucy Franca.

Former Rukiga country MP Jack Chrissy Sabiiti is the new party chairman and Yusufu Nsibambi is his vice in charge of Buganda region. Others elected where Ajuna Daka (National mobilizer) while Mr. John Kikonyogo is the new Party spokesperson, Warred Lubega is the assistant Secretary General.
Shortly after the election, Mafabi spoke to journalist and said that the party has got new life and the new leaders are now mandated to embark on the recruitment of party new members.
“ Forum for Democratic Change party is at Najjanankumbi. We don’t want to see or hear and faction calling its self FDC party. We shall not disband Katonga faction but as duly elected leaders we will try to talk to them such that they stop calling themselves FDC. If they fail to listen to our plea, we will have no any other option but to prostitute any person or persons trying to trade and masquerade as FDC leaders.’’ Nandala said.
He also said that those who are opposing his Najjanankumbi faction on grounds that they pocketed Museveni money are hypocrites. He singled out the MP for Kira Municipality Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda who he said that he is also eating big from Museveni but he turns around and criticizes them.
The Lukwago-Besigye faction had on Wednesday 4,October 2023 run to court seeking for a temporary injunction on the Najjanankumbi delegates’ conference but Justice Musa Sekaana ruled against the Katonga faction on grounds that the application was tendered in late and FDC party leaders had already incurred costs to organize the conference.
Over 1400 delegates participated in the elections and a total of 58 positions were available for grab, 34 leaders emerged unopposed.
Meanwhile Yusufu Nsibambi the Mawokota South Member of Parliament has been also confirm by the party leadership as the FDC chief whip in Parliament replacing Ssemujju Ibrahim Nganda of Kira Municipality. The appointment occurred in August but the speaker had rejected the new appointment.
