The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) warns Head teachers on submission of their learners` continuous assessments exercises list they risk them on missing out on the final examination at senior.
The warning was echoed by the board`s Director of Technology and Reprographics Dr. Peter Wakabi while addressing Journalist at Media Centre in Kampala on January 17, 2023.
He revealed that Head Teachers of Secondary Schools are given up to January 31, 2023 to register with UNEB such that they can be able to upload data on their learners` continuous assessment results to avoid risking the learners from missing out final examinations set by UNEB.
Wakabi said this will not affect the 20203 senior four candidates because these are still learning the old curriculum, those who are currently in S1, S2 and S3 are the one affected because they are learning the new curriculum.
“The continuous assessment of learners at Secondary level was made mandatory by government and it will account on the final result of the learner at senior four final results. Uganda National Examination Board therefore encourages Head Teachers to register with the examining board for continuous assessment score data collection“. Dr. Wakabi said.
He added: “It will be illogical for a learner to register and seat for final examinations set by UNEB yet he/ she has no continuous assessment results uploaded by his/her school to the UNEB portal because this will part of the final results“.
He also said that UNEB will teach Head Teachers on how to upload the continuous assessment results on it portal after all schools have registered. Schools without UNEB Examination Centre number are required to go to UNEB office and be get special number which will allow them access the portal.
Meanwhile, the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) boss Rosemary Kisembo has argued learners to use this holiday and register with NIRA to get the nin number because it is required in all their walks of life.
Kisembo said that the a nin is a unique number that cuts across all sectors say education, employers, Health and travel to mention but a few therefore students need it because even after school they will be using it in their daily life.
“ NIRA is mandated to register all Citizens of Uganda under the Registration of Persons Act section 5, I therefore call upon all students to come to the Authority`s offices and register so as to obtain the nin numbers because they will not be access government services without such numbers“. Kisembo advised.
She also said that in the different districts NIRA will stage temporary offices at boomer grounds while those in Kampala Metropolitan can go to the office and resister there and this time round students are given apriority because they are about to go back to school.
She argued all those who attended the Nani education in 2017/2018 and registered to get a copy of the form they retained and get the application ID number that is located on the right hand side of their copy, open the NIRA portal and enter that ID to check their registration status.
If such a person finds that he/she is registered in the system, can now down load print a copy which she/ he can keep and use it whenever required.
Cumustances under which the system may reject registering a person.
Kisembo said that is someone applied for registration and the information she/he gave was insuffient, the system will reject the application. For instance if the information for heritage or on parents is insuffient.
When the parents are deceased one can get the nin of the deceased parent or the grand parent who is still alive and take it to NIRA for registration. Those who luck that can be go to LC I chairman and obtain a letter recommending them as citizens of Uganda.
