One Student Died on spot in a Fatal Crash Dozens injured

One student is reported dead and twenty four others injured in a single fatal crash that occurred today this morning on 15/06/2024 at Kyeizimbate along Kamubiizi-Kikagate Road at about 1000 hrs.

The crash involved motor vehicle registration numbers UBA 691Q Mistubishi Canter in which students were travelling in going for a study trip.

According to the Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, initial report, the said motor vehicle left Ntungu S.S.S at about 0800hrs in the morning carrying 33 students and 8 teachers totaling to 41 people on board. These were going for zonal football and netball school competition at Kyezimbire S.S.S in Isingiro District.

When the driver reached at Kyeinzibaate while on speed, failed to negotiate a sharp bend, lost control and jumped out leaving the car in motion for about 10 meters hence overturning and killing instantly one female student and injured 24 others.

The traffic police responded to the scene immediately, and transported the victims to Mbarara Referral Hospital for medical attention.

The body has been conveyed to Mbarara Mortuary for post mortem examination, while the motor vehicle towed to Isingiro CPS Police Station as inquires commence.

We continue appeal to schools to stop using trucks to transport students.
