Pupils of Kampton Junior Nursery and Primary School survived death while two people are reported killed and seven critically injured by a collapsing school building in Bunamwaya Wakiso District on 3rd February, 2024. The seriously injured ones were rescued by police fire brigade.
The deceased are identified as Kawuki aka Nakambaya and other only known as Philp while, those escaped with serious wounds are Edisa Kaweesa, Ivan Ssenyonjo, Kisusi Yassin, Maturu Sharif, Ssempijja Richard ,Ssempijja Fred and Wambusi Derick.
The bodies of the deceased are at Mulago mortuary pending police’s postmortem and those who survived are being treated at Galaxy Hospital.
According to the police spokesperson SCP. Fred Enanga a four stored building for Kampton Junior nursery and primary school in Kisingiri Zone Bunamwaya, Wakiso District was being constructed by Dice Engineering Company Ltd using metallic steel materials and was at its fourth floor.
Its alleged that, the owner of the school Rewera Patrick which has over 300 pupils a resident of Muyanga Zone in Makindye Division had opt for adding on a fourth floor to his school premises so as to accommodate more levels of p6 and p7 this academic year since it was stop at p5 and this floor had already been erected but with use of week materials.
Mr. Enanga told reporters in the weekly press briefing that the owner of the school Rewera has already recorded a statement and the site Engineer is who is on the run is yet to be apprehended answer charges of Rash and neglect together with the school’s director.
